There aren't a huge amount of photos that exist from the time of the Civil War. Photographs of the day were glass plates, and often the glass needed to be reused -- and the photos disappeared forever. These photos illustrate the brutality of war, homes and buildings, and of course, mustaches galore.
**For your homework this week** Please pick one photo that you feel especially interested in or affected by. In your Civil War Journal, first write down the time the photo comes through the slideshow (so I can find it). Then please write me 2-3 paragraphs. The first paragraph will describe what you see in the picture. The other two paragraphs should be your personal opinion on the photo; tell me why it is meaningful to you, why you believe it is important, how what you see affects you. This will be due to me on Wednesday at the beginning of class**
