Civil War Journal - First Post

On your first page, please think back on what we have learned about primary sources. Imagine you have been gone for 100 years. There is only one primary source -- a piece of your life -- left. What is that thing? What does it tell others about you?

Homework due 4/13

For homework this week, please write a two-paragraph "diary entry" pretending you are a person who either lives in the North or in the South in 1860. You can decide whether you want to be:

1. A Southern slave-owner
2. A Southern slave
3. A Northerner

Please describe yourself in the first paragraph and describe your daily life in the second paragraph. This doesn't have to be incredibly detailed, but it does need to be accurate. Please reference Chapter 19 for information about the North and South.

I will check this homework at the beginning of class on Wednesday.

Note: You need an email account to follow the blog. If you do not already have one, consider making one for free at any of the web based servers, i.e. hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc.

1.Click on the follow button at the bottom of the page.

2. If you have a gmail account click on Google. If you have a Yahoo account, click on Yahoo. If you have a Twitter account click on that. If you have none of those, or an email address from a different provider, click on the link at the bottom that says to create a new Google account. You are not signing up for a new email...you are simply just creating a log-in you can use in many places on the internet.

3. In high school, following a blog and perhaps even creating one of your own will be an expectation. If you are checking in regularly and posting when assigned as an 8th grader, you will be very well prepared as a 9th grader.

This week's homework will be to show Mrs. Patterson your index cards/scratch paper notes that you will use for your Powerpoint presentation. Your index cards will be due at the beginning of class on Wednesday, and I will expect you to refer to them when presenting your Powerpoint that day!
